The Board

Cumbria Safeguarding Adults Board works in partnership with organisations across Cumbria to help protect adults with care and support needs from abuse or neglect.

The Board leads adult safeguarding across Cumbria and works with organisations to ensure that they have effective safeguarding policies and procedures in place. It is important to work together in the best way possible to protect adults with care and support needs.

The Board aims to make sure adults who may be at risk of abuse or neglect, and their carers, are enabled to:

  • Live as safely and independently as possible

  • Make their own decisions

  • Take control of their own lives.

The three core duties of the Board are to:

  • Publish an annual strategic plan

  • Publish an annual report

  • Review serious safeguarding cases. These are called Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs).

The Board includes representation from:

  • Cumbria County Council

  • Cumbria Police

  • North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust

  • Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust

  • Probation Services

  • Morecambe Bay University Hospital's Trust

  • Cumbria's Local Safeguarding Children Board

  • Healthwatch Cumbria

  • Independent Lay Member representation

  • Haverigg HMPS

  • North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group

  • Morecambe Bay Clinical Commissioning Group
