A worldwide revolution in information and communications technologies is occurring. The Internet, the personal computer, and the mobile phone are fundamentally changing our lives - affecting the way we work, learn and interact.

E-Government is about the effective use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) to communicate and transact business with the public, with partners, other public services, voluntary organisations and businesses.

Central government has set a target for all councils to be capable of delivering 100% of their services electronically by December 2005.

The Council has developed a modernization plan to improve information and on-line services.  This plan, which is updated annually, is presented in our sixth annual Implementing E-Government (IEG6) Statement as of 31st of March 2006.

We are working in partnership with the District Councils and other public authorities to deliver better, more joined up services under the umbrella of The Connected Cumbria Partnership.
