Meet our Family Finders

Cumbria Children's Services established a dedicated Family Finding Team in September 2015 to ensure all children with a plan of adoption moved to their permanent family as early as possible.

The 3 Family Finders support and assist Social Workers, Foster Carers and prospective adoptive families in the complex process of helping children be ready to move on to their forever families. They also liaise with others who know the children well like nurseries, schools and health visitors.

Cumbria's matching procedures focus on assessing the needs of children and the ability of prospective adopters to meet those needs throughout the child's entire childhood, ensuring that there are robust support plans to assist children and their families.

Family Finders work with the Recruitment and Assessment Team, Support Team and District Teams to match children with in-house adopters where possible. Sometimes waiting for a local family can cause a delay for a child, so they will look for a family through the national linking opportunities as well as profiling children at Adoption Exchange Days and supporting children, their Foster Carers and Social Workers at Adoption Activity Days.

Family Finders organise and chair Child Appreciation Days for all children over the age of 3. These days give adopters lots of valuable information about the child they will be caring for. Family Finders support the Cumbria Adoption Panel and are on hand to provide information about the proposed match. They help with the vital planning of introductions and 'bridging' between foster care placement and adoptive family.
