Mental Health Problems - Who can get help?

People with mental illnesses can have an assessment from us if they are aged 16 to 65 and have severe and/or enduring mental health problems that: 

• affect their ability to look after themselves or keep relationships going with others; and/or 
• create ongoing problems; and/or 
• result in frequent crises which need admission to hospital or other help to resolve them.                 

We also help:   

• older people over 65;
• carers who look after people with mental illnesses.                 

Help from Cumbria County Council Adult Social Care can only be provided following an assessment of need. We give priority to the most dependent people, particularly people who live alone and are vulnerable, and people who couldn't manage without care from others.   

We provide services for people with mental illnesses as part of community care.
