What is a voucher?

Vouchers are a way of providing services such as short-term breaks to carers.  Using vouchers, you can arrange care directly with providers rather than asking a social worker to do this for you.  Care is provided for a specified period of time and may be provided:

  • in a residential home,
  • at a respite care service or
  • within the home of the person you look after.

The voucher is in a paper format, with your name and address printed on it and will be equivalent to an amount of money.
