What happens when I move into a Cumbria Care home?

Skip main menu

If you have chosen one of our homes, there is an admission procedure that has to be followed:

  • Before you move into the home, the manager of the home will carry out an assessment of your needs to make sure the home can meet your needs;
  • The manager will agree with you a convenient date to move in.
  • Your social worker will provide us with a care plan which describes your needs and how these will be met by the home.
  • The manager of the home will ensure you or your family sign a contract of residency.
  • When you move into the home, our staff will meet and welcome you and will help you move into your room and unpack.  They will also give you some paperwork and contact details.
  • Your needs, as described on your care plan will be reviewed by your social worker six weeks after you move in to make sure you have settled in well and your needs continue to be met.

A similar procedure applies when people move into our homes for short periods of time for short breaks (also known as respite care).

Sometimes, people have to move into one of our homes on an emergency basis.  When this happens, some of the stages of the admission process cannot be done before the person moves into the home.  In this case, these should be completed as soon as possible after admission.
