If you are interested in moving into one of our homes, you will need to contact Cumbria County Council's Adult Social Care directorate and ask for an assessment of need.  This assessment will identify what your needs are.  The person carrying out the assessment - this is usually a social worker - will discuss with you different ways of meeting these needs.  One of these ways could be residential care.

If you are assessed as needing residential care by a social worker, you have the right to choose the home you would like to move into.

In Cumbria, there are residential homes run by Cumbria Care and also those run independently of the council by private and voluntary organisations.

There are many points to consider when choosing a residential home.  You can contact homes to find out more about them, to have a look around and even a trial stay. Your social worker can help you with this by giving you information and arranging for you to visit or have trial stays in the homes you like.
