Positive risk taking

Positive Risk Taking is about people taking control over their own lives by weighing up the potential benefits and harms of exercising one choice of action over another.  Positive Risk Taking is not negligent ignorance of the potential risks.

Risk is a part of everyone’s everyday life. All people including people with learning disabilities have the right to take risks.

Cumbria's Learning Disability Services have developed and implemented a positive risk taking policy.  Work is under way to consider extending use of this policy to all adult social care services in Cumbria.
