Dignity Project:
CSAC is working hard to enhance the dignity of people receiving social care services. We have been involved in several dignity projects including the setting up of the Dignity in Cumbria website. Please go to www.dignityincumbria.org.uk
to see the multi agency site which is specifically related to dignity.
Dementia:
We have also worked with Cumbria County Council to produce a leaflet called 'Dementia at home'. This highlights small or simple changes that can be made to the home environment in order to help a a person with dementia to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible and help reduce their stress and anxiety levels. At workshops we ran for domiciliary care staff we recruited a group of dementia environment champions.
Target Wellbeing:
CSAC is currently running the Care School part of a Cumbria Wide Target Wellbeing Project. This is funded by the National Lottery and managed by Groundwork
Materials that we have produced as part of this project include:
Crossing the Line: - This is a training pack devised for social care organisations which can be used with groups of up to 16 staff. It take approximately one and a half hours to deliver. It has been designed specifically to get social care staff to consider a range of scenarios and decide together whether a dignity line has been crossed. Full instructions are included in the pack. A case study
and an evaluation
from a Service User perspective are available to view.
Enhanced Induction Pack: - This pack provides more information than is required with the Common Induction standards and focuses on:
It can be used by whole staff teams or as a performance management tool when a training need has been identified. It comprises of easy to read information with multi choice and open questions for staff to complete. It is assessed by managers and guide answers are included.
Dishes in a Dash: - Some frail older people living in their own home may eat and drink less than they need. Therefore the staff who support them told CSAC that they would benefit from a recipe booklet that helped them create quick and easy dishes using storecupboard ingredients. CSAC has produced just that along with a DVD that shows many of the dishes being prepared and cooked. They are available free of charge for all domiciliary care staff in Cumbria and for sale outside the county. For more information contact Lesley Gill.
