Care Sector Alliance Cumbria’s vision is 'to improve the dignity and quality of life for adults who use social care services within Cumbria, through the development of those who support them’ and our mission is ‘to contribute to the success of the adult social care sector in Cumbria through the development and sharing of good practice workforce development initiatives’.

By quality of life we mean that the care/support offered to adults should be pro-active and person-centred.

Care Sector Alliance Cumbria (CSAC) is a collaborative and innovative employer led Alliance, which was formed in 2004 to support the workforce development needs of Cumbria's private and voluntary social care providers.  Since our inception, we have enjoyed managing a range of initiatives designed to support our members.  These include:

  • Influencing strategic thinking at a local, regional and national level
  • Providing workforce development funding to private and voluntary employers who meet our eligibility criteria
  • Provision of workforce development sessions and programmes
  • Production of learning materials
  • Production and distribution of quarterly news bulletins which provide information on CSAC activities together with national and regional developments and legislative changes.
  • Providing networking opportunities for providers to meet and discuss different topics.
  • Showcasing best practice at CSAC events.
  • Providing R&R support.
  • Helping employers respond to the personalisation agenda and the introduction of Self Directed Support.
  • Providing access for care providers to the SCILS (Social Care Information & Learning Service & Education Information Learning Services) e-learning site.
  • Offering opportunities to care providers and others to become involved in various projects and workgroups.
  • Project managing initiatives designed to enhance the skill base of social care workers.
  • Carrying out research and using the information to inform CSAC activity.
  • Ensuring employers are aware of legislative changes/requirements.
  • Facilitating a network of Education/Training Providers who deliver learning to the social care sector.
  • Providing employers with quarterly information about the range of social care courses delivered by Education & Training Providers within Cumbria.

CSAC's work is formulated by the CSAC Board. To ensure a dialogue with the education/training providers that service the social care workforce, CSAC hosts an Education and Training Provider Network. CSAC also acts as Cumbria's Employer Led Partnership in the Skills for Care Network.
