CONFERENCE 2008 - LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT – MAXIMISE THE POTENTIAL OF YOUR PEOPLE
Our 4th hugely successful Summer Conference 'Leadership & Management- Maximise the potential of your people' took place at Carlisle Racecourse on 27th June 2008.
Feedback was superb, with comments including 'This is the best conference I've ever been to' and 'A thoroughly enjoyable, well put together and interesting event'
Our traditional after lunch drama session was led by Robin Alfred from Olivier Mythodrama, a company that uses theatre skills, psychology and mythology to help audiences consider different aspects of Leadership. Robin took delegates on a whistle-stop tour of Shakespeare's Henry V and demonstrated how Henry's leadership style contributed to his success in battle. The audience, some of whom had indicated at the beginning of the session that they disliked Shakespeare, were completely engaged and enthralled throughout, and numerous comments were made such as 'Inspirational' and 'If Shakespeare had been taught like this at school, I'd have taken more interest'

As Cumbria’s population continues to become more diverse, many people and organisations are still unclear on how to put equality and diversity into practice. Social care workers are at the forefront of delivering increasingly complex, flexible and personalised services and this year’s conference gave an important and useful opportunity to explore a number of themes which could help ensure that your organisation is able to meet present and future challenges. We don’t want you to just talk about equality and diversity, we want to help you make it happen.
As well as interesting speakers, the day was interspersed with dynamic and engaging drama sketches provided by ‘Drama For Training’, an organisation with a wealth of experience of helping individuals and companies identify the opportunities and address the challenges posed by equality and diversity.
