Day Care is provided throughout Cumbria at centres in many local towns and villages. Day centres can be in:
residential or nursing homes;
purpose built day centres in larger towns; and
community centres and halls in smaller towns and villages.
You do not need to worry about how you will get to the day centre. As part of the care plan, your social worker will arrange transport for you if you need it. Taxis or minibuses are often used for this.
Facilities in day centres vary. All day centres have toilets and dining facilities. Some larger centres have bathing and hairdressing facilities. Most have disabled access suitable for people with mobility problems and for those in wheelchairs
The number and experience of staff available will depend on the needs of the people who attend. Staff usually include both paid staff and volunteers.
Day centres are run by:
Cumbria Care; or
independent organisations such as voluntary or private organisations.
