In most cases funeral costs can be met with money from the estate of the deceased. If you need help to cover the cost of a funeral there are a number of ways you can get this. Cumbria County Council has produced a factsheet which provides detailed information about what help is available, what the payments cover, who might be eligible and how to apply. It also provides details of some support organisations that might be able to give counselling and advice.

Age Concern also produce a factsheet which provides information on pre-paid funeral plans, arranging a funeral without a funeral director, organ donation and procedures at the registry office.
