Telecare - How much will it cost me?

There are two parts to the cost of Telecare:

  1. The cost of the Telecare equipment, its installation and maintenance - this is provided free of charge to you.  This cost is met by Adult Social Care as the Telecare equipment is provided to you on a loan basis and remains the property of the council.
  2. The weekly service charge for the call handling centre and the mobile response service (if this is available in the area you live).  This charge varies but is around £9 per week.  You may be asked to contribute to this cost.

If you are having Telecare, you may well also be receiving other services from us such as home care.  The weekly service charge for Telecare will be added to the cost of other services like home care so we know how much all your care will cost.  We will then carry out a financial assessment (or means test).  This will look at your finances and work out how much you will be expected to pay towards the cost of your care.  The amount you pay will include a contribution to the cost of the Telecare service charge.
