About CASCAT: the Cumbria Archive Service Catalogue
CASCAT, our new online catalogue, covers a number of collections held at our four public offices at Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal and Whitehaven. There are over 110,000 catalogue descriptions in the database. The catalogue mainly contains new material deposited at the four Record Offices since 1999 and some new cataloguing of collections deposited before 1999.
A large number of pre-existing Cumbria Archive Service catalogues are available online on the A2A (Access to Archives) (external link) web site. These comprise a number of our collections mainly in the following categories:
These catalogues are now also being gradually incorporated into CASCAT. A list of A2A catalogues in CASCAT is now available (PDF).
Other Cumbrian archival online resources
CASCAT will eventually contain a comprehensive union catalogue of our collections. In the meantime users should search both CASCAT and the Access to Archives (A2A) web site for details of our holdings.
Links to our catalogues will also be made available from the National Register of Archives (external link) web site, which provides details of collections relating to specific persons, corporate bodies or places.
Details of records relating to manors in Cumberland, Westmorland and Furness are also now available on the Manorial Documents Register (external link) web site.
