Please note that from 4 June 2007 there has been a charge for the use of all digital cameras for taking images of archives and printed sources in the searchroom (NB the use of scanners is not permitted). These charges have been introduced to help generate the income we need to protect front line services. The charges are as follows (from 1 April 2015):
1 session licence: £4.50
2 session licence: £8.40
5 session licence: £20.00
10 session licence: £35.00
Annual business licence: £146.00
A session consists of a morning or afternoon period in our Archive Centres (or part thereof). Use of a camera at the same Archive Centre in both morning and afternoon would require a 2 session licence. Users may use a multiple session licence across one or more Archive Centres.
Please complete an application form, available from the Searchroom Enquiry Desk. The supply of digital camera licences is conditional on researchers completing a copyright declaration form and refraining from flash photography. Users who may wish to publish images in publications, websites and exhibitions should note that such use may infringe copyright and may also invoke publication charges. It is the responsibility of the user to investigate ownership of copyright but users should check with Archives staff who will be pleased to advise further.
