Study Unit 1: Britain 1066-1500
Material from this period is limited and is also difficult to read and understand. However, Record Office staff will be pleased to offer help.
Study Unit 2: Britain 1500-1750
Particular topics for which documents are available at this period are Border Warfare, the Changing Role of Women (Lady Anne Clifford), the Civil War and the Jacobite Rebellions but there are many others reflecting the political, social, religious, economic and industrial life of the county. Documents at this date may still be difficult to read and understand but Record Office staff will be pleased to offer assistance.
Study Unit 3: Britain 1750-1900
Most of the documents in the Record Offices date from this period. Particularly fruitful areas are Industrialisation,Slavery Changes in Agriculture and Rural Life, Development of Transport, and Improvements in Social and Working Conditions. The material does not tend to be difficult to read or understand.
Study Unit 4: A World Study after 1900
Topics from this period for which documents are available are the 1st and 2nd World Wars, the Extension of the Franchise, the Changing Role and Status of Women, Political Events between the Wars, Unemployment, the Depression and Industrial Re-development. Please be aware that many modern records are of a sensitive or confidential nature and may have access restrictions ranging from 30 to 100 years.
