Project update: June 2009

Project Update: end June 2009

The restoration of the exterior of Lady Gillford’s House is virtually complete.  Stonework has been restored where necessary and cleaned, and windows have been renovated.  Inside, new electrical wiring and water/heating services are being installed. The work is being carried out in a way sympathetic to the listed status and historic nature of the property.  Replastering and decoration have been started.  The work has been delayed by the discovery of some dry rot which is currently being treated and removed.

In the new extension, the shell of the reinforced concrete strongroom is complete and is starting to dry out.   The steelwork frame for the public access space, and the glazed link between the historic house and the new extension has been erected.

There are some delays to construction but the overall programme is on course to meet the proposed opening date in the second half of 2010.   The construction costs are on budget.

Quarmby Construction Ltd is monitored by the Considerate Contractors Scheme.   A liaison group for local residents is organised by Paul Carrigan, Neighbourhood Development Officer, e-mail paul.carrigan@cumbriacc.gov.uk

Full time security guards are employed on site outside construction hours and at weekends.
