Change of telephone numbers at Carlisle Record Office

Getting to Carlisle Record Office 

BY CAR: 
Disabled Visitors:  Parking is only available at The Castle for disabled Record Office visitors.  Please proceed with caution into the car park and notify the attendant that you are visiting the Record Office.

All Other Visitors:  Parking is now NOT available at The Castle for Record Office visitors. There are several car parks in the city which are a short distance from the Record Office.  The location of these car parks is given in the DIRECTIONS TO THIS RECORD OFFICE link below.  

BY BUS: Buses to Carlisle stop in the city centre from which the walk will take about 15 minutes.

BY TRAIN: Carlisle has its own railway station where trains on the West Coast Main Line and the Newcastle-Carlisle and Barrow-Whitehaven lines stop. Again, the walk to the Record Office will take about 15 minutes.

Sources available at this Record Office include:  Original documents from the twelfth century to the present day, relating to the part of the historic county of Cumberland which is north of the River Derwent. The areas around Carlisle, Keswick, Penrith and Maryport are amongst those for which material is available.
