Through our Record Offices in Carlisle, Kendal,  Barrow and Whitehaven the Cumbria Archive Service provides facilities for the preservation and public use of original and printed documents dating from the twelfth century to the present day. These archives form a fascinating record of all aspects of life in the county.

Included amongst the 10 miles of records the Cumbria Archive Service cares for are parish registers, other ecclesiastical records, wills, electoral registers, maps and  plans, poor law records, title deeds, and photographs. The archives of many families, businesses, local authorities, solicitors, societies and schools are also deposited in the Record Offices.
