Cumbria is part of a two year project aimed at re-engaging pupils in education who are at risk of not realising their potential.
The project operates in all five Travel to Learn areas with each having a local approach to reflect the different needs and priorities.
The project has approximately 250 pupils involved and covers Year 10 and Year 11 pupils. There is no single programme and in essence there are 5 different ones. There are common elements which will be available to students over the next two years. Each will be engaged in Plan-it, an electronic Individual Learning Programme (see Plan-IT link on right), have dedicated counsellors and will experience a work-focused programme.
In addition pupils will be involved with a range of work based learning providers, employers and personal development programmes.
Achieving their potential, improving attendance, reducing (and hopefully) eliminating exclusions are just some of the expected outcomes.
The project is funded by the Learning Skills Council and monitored and evaluated by a range of agencies.
