Materials, Training and Support

The documents below were written by educationalists from Cumbria to support whole school developments. They were designed to help schools create learning environments that promote social and emotional development in children and young people and improve behaviour.

They are based on the same basic principles: that schools need to plan to meet the social and emotional needs of their pupils systematically. The successful teaching of these skills and abilities will require schools to consider social and emotional development within whole school policy, class and behaviour management and through direct 'teaching'.

The Behaviour Curriculum is deliberately not designed to be prescriptive but might be considered to be a framework for thinking and planning school developments.

The Behaviour Curriculum (primary) and Positive Behaviour Curriculum (secondary) can be obtained from Galina Murray on 01228 60 6834 or click on the link below to send an e-mail. One free copy is available on request to Cumbrian primary, secondary and special schools. Sample pages of these documents are available by clicking on the links above.

Planning for Positive Behaviour Planning for Positive Behaviour is a comprehensive folder of resources based upon the principles underpinning the Behaviour Curriculum. It provides a summary of working at the whole school level, approaches for assessment and intervention with children and young people with social, emotional and behaviour difficulties.

This has been distributed to all schools within Cumbria. Further copies are available from Galina Murray.

If you would like support to develop a Behaviour Curriculum in school or to implement the strategies in Planning for Positive Behaviour please send an e-mail using the link below or contact the Area Senior Educational Psychologist.

PlayWise is currently under development. It is funded by the Early Years Partnership to consider how we can develop social competence, emotional resilience and quality thinking in the early years. It is a comprehensive approach to working in the Foundation Stage and will include ideas for whole foundation setting training, resources for use in the foundation setting, ideas for working with parents and ideas to ensure inclusion of all pupils.

If you would like more information or would like to be involved in developments please contact Mark Toomey on 01228 60 6830 or click on the link below to send an e-mail.
