Private fostering - What will Children's Services do when I tell them about the private fostering arrangement?

The law says we must make regular visits to ensure a child being privately fostered is safe and well cared for and that advice is available to the carers.  We also have to check:

  • the suitability of the foster carers and others in the household;
  • with the Police and health service;
  • how long the arrangement will be for;
  • the child's health and education needs;
  • the child's racial and cultural needs;
  • the child's wishes and feelings about the fostering arrangements;
  • the contact arrangements with the child's parents and the way they continue to exercise parental responsibility; and
  • financial arrangements.
