'Music is an essential part of a balanced education providing a powerful and distinctive form of communication and expression. All children, whatever their background and wherever they live should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument.' (DfES Music Services website 2003)
Learning Support Music (LS Music) is a vibrant and forward looking team of specialist music teachers who deliver instrumental tuition and curriculum support throughout the schools in Cumbria. Tuition is offered on brass, string, woodwind, guitar and keyboard instruments in Primary and Secondary Schools. Lessons usually last for 30 minutes and are often delivered within a small group environment.
Additionally LS Music provides curriculum support to schools in two ways; through regular whole class music curriculum teaching or through the extensive range of activities on offer. These activities, designed to support teacher's professional development needs, are contained within the LS Curriculum Music Support Programme.
We offer pupils a broad range of musical experiences based upon our modern teaching strategies and our extended activities programme. Amongst pupils' many opportunities are; playing solo and in groups, performing to a wide range of audiences, studying many different styles and musical cultures, composing and improvising. For further information about your child learning an instrument see our leaflet 'Welcome to LS Music' (link below).
LS Music operates a pupils' instrument lease scheme and instrument purchase scheme. For further details please see the link below:
