Where Is the Programme Available

Buttermere

Reading Intervention originated in Cumbria and is widely available across the county.

Cumbria Reading Intervention is a major commitment for both schools and local authorities (LAs) and requires considerable support in terms of human resources and funding.

Other LAs wishing to develop Reading Intervention would need to have the resource, expertise and human capacity to deliver the intensive initial training programme and provide appropriate follow-up support to staff in schools.

Because of the high level of tutor support needed for participants during the Cumbria Reading Intervention training course, tutors need to be based geographically close to the groups they are supporting.   For this reason it is not usually possible for teachers or teaching assistants from other parts of the country to join colleagues from Cumbria during a training course.

Reading Intervention is now also available in Rochdale.   Colleagues from Rochdale have been working with the Cumbria Reading Intervention team over the past two years to train their own tutor and therefore develop their capacity to offer appropriately supported training at a local level.
