Training to Deliver the Programme

The Cumbria Reading Intervention programme can be delivered by teachers or teaching assistants who have taken part in and successfully completed the recognised programme of Cumbria Reading Intervention training in Cumbria.

This training is rigorous and involves staff in three full days of initial training, attendance at follow-up support tutorials and delivering programmes of Cumbria Reading Intervention support to 2 children.

During the training participants are visited by course tutors who provide feedback on their teaching.   Participants also produce videotapes of themselves delivering an intervention session for discussion at the group support tutorials.

There are clear, written guidelines available that specify the standards the course participants must reach in order to qualify for their Cumbria Reading Intervention Teaching Certificate.   These quality control criteria are explicit and ensure that the intervention is delivered to an appropriate standard.
