To carry out this review, our partners have formed several new groups, supported by the County Council. For more information, follow the links below.
SOF is a countywide group that oversees the whole process and decides on the order in which areas should be reviewed. The group considers the options put forward for each area and makes suggestions to the County Council.
Five LPGs have been formed to cover the whole of Cumbria. Each LPG looks at their area of the county and identifies possible options for the future.
The Council’s Cabinet will decide which options will go on to the next stage – public consultation. They will then look at the public’s response to the consultation. Using this information, the Cabinet will identify what kind of provision for the future it would like to see in the area concerned. If any aspects of the Cabinet’s way forward require statutory proposals to be made, then the County Council (and potentially schools), will need to publish these proposals. Making a statutory proposal is a legal requirement where there is a wish to secure formal school organisation change (e.g. the closure of an existing school or the opening of a new one).
The review process is supported by a dedicated project team.
