Learning Improvement Service - Secondary

The service provides challenge and support to LA-maintained secondary schools in district areas and at county-wide level.   

Each LA-maintained secondary school is allocated a link General Adviser who monitors the school’s performance and coordinates the brokering and deployment of support for the school, where this is necessary.

Link Advisers broker support from a number of sources with an increasing focus on brokering school to school support.  In addition to this, support may be provided by the officer directly, by colleagues from the secondary intervention and support team or by other general advisers – where there is a need for subject-specific support.

The service works in close partnership with other providers such as the National College of School Leadership, and increasingly, provides support to area-based consortia of schools.

The service also undertakes reviews of schools – both at the request of the Children’s Services Directorate and also at the direct request of schools.  In these cases we work in close partnership with the schools to ensure that the outcomes of the review provide clear judgements and recommendations for addressing any areas of development the school may have.
