You can find our Summer Term Programme (April to July 2012) of training sessions for governors at the bottom of this page.
The summer programme consists of the already advertised training events, as well as new courses which have been developed in response to feedback received from the Governors’ Questionnaire. As requested by governors, we have introduced new courses on the general role of governors in the strategic management of finance, heath and safety, safeguarding and the new Ofsted framework, as well as specifically on the Link Governor’s role. We are also finalising details to offer a module on Special Education Needs (SEN) and arranging more dates for the Understanding Data course that has proved very popular. Information on these will be available on the school portal and sent electronically to Chairs and Clerks shortly.
The summer GST courses will be published in a brochure, available to schools at the start of the summer term, along with the twilight Local Learning Network (LLN) events. As well as informing governors of the courses available for their development, the brochure will also enable governors to see the full range of the training opportunities for school staff available from Learning Improvement Services (LIS). Now GST is part of LIS, we offer this as a useful asset for governors in considering strategically their school’s full training needs.
We are also working on the GST training courses for the academic year 2012-13. This will be published as part of the Cumbria Continuing Professional Development (CCPD) brochure, so that all school training opportunities will be available in one publication. This document will be available in school as a printed version and electronic copies will be mailed to the Chair of each Governing Body.

Cancellations and non-attendance
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of bookings made for governors who have not subsequently attended. Whilst we understand and sympathise when emergencies arise that make attendance impossible, non-attendance incurs unnecessary costs and makes some sessions unworkable, as well as uneconomical. Therefore, if you are unable to attend, please notify us, ideally by 4.00 pm on the day of the session by email, or within five working days after the session.
