School Admissions - Need to make an appeal?

You have the right to an independent admission appeal if you have applied for a place at any maintained school or academy and have not been offered a place.

You must contact the admission authority for the school that has refused you a school place to request an admission appeal.

The admission authorities for school's are as follows:

  • Cumbria County Council – for community and voluntary controlled schools – contact the School Admissions and Appeals team at 5 Portland Square, Carlisle.
  • The School Governing Body – for foundation and voluntary aided schools – contact the Clerk to the Governing Body or the Headteacher of the school directly.
  •  The Governing Body for Academies – contact the Clerk to the Governing Body or the Principal of the Academy directly.
