In line with new approaches adopted at both national and county levels, aimed at increasing the effectiveness and impact of continuing professional development in all our schools, this service is undergoing changes.  Our Learning Improvement Advisers will continue to work with schools to build a programme of twilight and half-day events that will complement the CPD opportunities already published in the CCPD brochures.  They will also be developing their role in surveying CPD needs of schools and staff members across the county and helping the CPD team:

respond to local demand for tailored professional development opportunities
improve the knowledge, skills and understanding of those who work in schools to further improve the quality of education experienced by children and so raise their achievements
assist the development of networks of schools and their staff who can enhance their learning and improve their expertise through collaboration and sharing

The Local INSET Network will continue to provide a range of half-day, after-school and occasional full day courses across Cumbria, as a planned response to needs identified by schools through consultation with the three area co-ordinators. Hundreds of sessions, covering a wide range of subjects, are offered each year.
