Children`s Services Safeguarding Improvement Programme

In March 2015 Ofsted inspected Cumbria Children's Services under the Single Inspection Framework.

Of the five areas of work inspected three were judged to be requiring improvement and two inadequate as follows:

Overall inadequate
- Children who need help and protection - Requires Improvement
- Children looked after and achieving permanence - Inadequate
- Adoption performance - Requires Improvement
- Experiences and progress of care leavers - Requires Improvement
- Leadership, management and governance - Inadequate

Children's Services have a robust improvement plan in place and since March 2015 we have continued to work with Ofsted to ensure direction and pace.  Monthly Ofsted monitoring visits started in July 2015, in addition to which Cumbria has benefited from the support and guidance of a DfE Advisor three days per month. All Ofsted monitoring visits and the latest inspection report are available here: https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/local-authorities/cumbria

Our commitment and determination to improve services for the children, young people and families we serve across Cumbria's communities can be seen and measured within this plan, which offers a transparent and honest overview of the steps taken to develop services, the level to which this has been achieved and the on-going challenges in securing the continuity needed to provide the right service to the right child at the right time, for all children.

Our vision is that all of Cumbria's children and young people have the best possible start in life, through being healthy, safe and achieving.
