Youth Offending Service - Prevention

Skip main menu

In 2004-05, the priorities for service development in Cumbria in relation to youth crime  prevention, have been delivered via the Children’s’ Fund 25% Crime Prevention plan and have primarily focused upon establishing Junior Youth Inclusion Programmes (YIP) (three such schemes have been established, covering North, West, and South Cumbria).  Alongside this, the Senior YIP in South Cumbria continues to operate effectively; targeting those “at risk” young people aged 13-17yrs in the specific areas covered by the scheme. Over recent months Cumbria Yos has led on the “Prevent and Deter” scheme.  This has involved drawing together a number of agencies and projects (including the YiPs) to work together to target services for those young people who are at risk of offending.  Both the Senior and Junior YiP programmes are delivered via Nacro.

Ongoing support of the Yip, Junior Yips, involvement in the Change for Children Partnership, and continued development of the Prevent and Deter scheme remain key prevention priorities for 2005-06.  We will also be building on our prevention work through the use of the additional funding announced recently by the national Youth Justice Board.
