Higher Education Funding

Worried about paying for a University course?

Both parents and students can be worried about the cost of funding not only the course itself, but also living expenses and course materials.

Whether wishing to study for a part-time or full time HND, degree, diploma etc, a range of financial support is available to help students fund their study:- from student loans and help with tuition fees, to specialist grants to assist with childcare and support for students with disabilities/learning difficulties.

Student Support Services at Cumbria County Council is here to help.

We offer a range of support, which includes:

  • Advice and guidance on financial support and how to apply
  • Application packs and guidance booklets
  • Advice and guidance sessions to assist with the completion of application forms as a drop-in service during office hours, and some evening sessions in local schools and colleges
  • Assessing the level of funding available and determining eligibility
  • Delivering presentations to students, prospective students and parents to explain the financial support available and the application system
  • Attending advice and guidance events such as Higher Education open days, school parents’ evenings, workshops, conferences and careers conventions

We work in partnership with Student Finance Direct, the body that administers student support on a national level and work together with the Student Loans Company, universities, and other organisations to ensure that payments are made to students.
