Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth

Cumbria County Council will be flying a flag for the Commonwealth on three building around the County, Cumbria House, Carlisle, The Courts, Carlisle and County Hall, Kendal. The Commonwealth flags will be hoisted on Commonwealth Day, Monday 12 March 2018 at 10am.

HM Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mrs Claire Hensman and The Chairman of Cumbria County Council, Councillor John Bell will be holding a short ceremony to celebrate and affirm our membership of the Commonwealth alongside other communities in our county on the same day as 52 other countries around the world.

The ceremony will commence at 9.45am outside of Cumbria House where the Commonwealth Affirmation and a message from the Commonwealth Secretary-General will be read before the flag is hoisted at 10am.

Following the ceremony, Commonwealth themed refreshments will be available in the Conference room for everyone to try.
