David Hanson MP has paid an unexpected but welcome visit to a Carlisle Neighbourhood forum.
The minister responsible for crime and policing was visiting a police station in the area and took the opportunity to visit the Belle Vue Neighbourhood Forum.
Mr Hanson MP accompanied a Cumbria Constabulary Inspector who was due to be speaking about community policing issues at the event, which was held at Raffles Community Church.
The minister attended the forum for part of the presentation on budgeting and for the local policing section, during which it was recognised that crime is down in the area and that residents are pleased with the standard of neighbourhood policing.
Afterward, feedback from the Inspector was that the minister was impressed by the forum and the opportunity for local people to voice their views.
