Funding means Education On the Hoof can be trotted out again

Skip main menu

Funding has been secured for the future of Education On the Hoof – a partnership project around Gypsy and Traveller culture at Appleby Horse Fair.

The £4000 grant has been provided by the North West Regional Development Agency for the partnership which comprises the County Council’s Community Unit and Children’s Services Departments, ACERT (Advisory Council for the Education of Roma and Other Travellers) and Traveller Education Services across the country.

The funding is one of twelve community cohesion grants which have been awarded to local authorities and community groups that have demonstrated good practice in community cohesion, specifically around equality and diversity.

It will enable the project, which has gone from strength to strength over recent years, to continue its work to break down barriers between Gypsies and Travellers and the housed community in Cumbria.  It works to provide information to travellers at the fair about the services available to them, educate Cumbria residents including school children about traveller culture and provide training for relevant professionals.
