You said...   we want a clean and tidy neighbourhood

We did…   brought the whole community together to spruce up the streets

A neighbourhood clean up has shown how a little team work and a lot of elbow grease can go a long way.

The spring clean in Carlisle’s Petteril Bankwas organised by Cumbria County Council, Riverside Housing Association, Carlisle City Council and Cumbria Police.

Residents and staff alike rolled up their sleeves to make some quick fixes on the estate.

Riverside Housing Association provided seven skips so that householders could dump their old and unwieldy furniture.

More than 70 local people of all ages, and City Councillors David Wilson and Donald Cape, turned out to help pick up litter. Cumbria Probation Service’s Community Payback team added the finishing touches by clearing moss and weeds from the pavements,

An ‘On your Bike’ event in the afternoon rewarded young people who did their bit for the litter pick.  The Neighbourhood Policing Team gave cycling support and maintenance.

The day was rounded off with a much deserved cuppa in the Community Café.
