The use and management of the park, which is owned and managed by Carlisle City Council, has become the subject of local debate over recent years.
The effects of flooding and riverbank erosion in recent years have seen some improvement works carried out and at the request of local residents, the city council’s Green Spaces team is now working on a five-year management plan.
A five-year plan will set out the top priorities for improvement in the park, including how pathways can be improved, plants wildlife and nurtured and the park’s cenotaph restored.
The meeting brought together the Stanwix Urban Neighbourhood Forum with the Wetheral and Stanwix Rural Neighbourhood Forums which are run jointly by Cumbria County Council and Carlisle City Council.
City council officers together with local county and city councillors were present at the meeting to listen to residents' views about the priorities for bringing the park back to a standard where it could be entered for a Green Flag award.
