Are you aged 16 to 18 and looking for a way into employment? The county council’s youth pathways scheme could help you.

The scheme helps young people in Cumbria get a job and work towards an NVQ qualification.

Every year the county council offers approximately 80 placements to young Cumbrians who might otherwise find it difficult to get a job, maybe because of personal circumstances or location.

Apprentices are placed in a wide range of council departments and voluntary organisations and can do anything from gaining office experience to caring for disabled children.

In the ten years since the youth pathways scheme began, more than 800 young people from all across the county have been helped into employment.

The scheme offers 12 months intensive training in placements in the council and other charity and voluntary organisations in Cumbria.  Apprentices receive an allowance, NVQ level training and can study for a range of IT-based qualifications.
