RETURNING to work after a long illness or with a disability can seem like a tough journey to make – but with encouragement and practical support from the Return to Work team, finding a new career could be the start of an exciting and rewarding chapter in your life. 

Return to Work can help you access the support and training you feel you need and match your skills to a local employer’s needs.

Working in partnership, Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency, Carlisle City Council, Routes to Work and Furness Enterprise are delivering the Return to Work project across the whole of Cumbria – in both rural and urban areas.

Who we can help

If you have been receiving incapacity benefit for more than 26 weeks and live in Cumbria then you are eligible to benefit from the Return to Work programme.

What we offer

Return to work is tailored to your needs and can help you to:

  • Gain relevant work experience 
  • Write a good CV and covering letter
  • Contact potential employers, making the first contact on your behalf
  • Access practical training courses
  • Find the right job for you  

Help for employers

Return to Work can help employers find staff with the skills and training they need, offer a wage subsidy for the first few weeks of work (which must be 16 or more hours per week) and there are regular visits and help available for both employee and employer during this period.
