At 17:13 firefighters from Grange and Milnthorpe were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on the A590 in Lindale, Grange-over-Sands. Crews released two casualties who were trapped in one vehicles. They were then passed to the care of North West Ambulance Service. Crews were on scene for approximately 30minutes

At 17:00 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A66 Embleton. Crews rescued one casualty from a vehicle using hydraulic cutting equipment before handing them into the care of paramedics. Crews were at the scene for an hour.

At 01:16 firefighters were called to Bridge End in Egremont following reports of a man marooned on a weir in the River Eden. Swift water technicians rescued the person using throw lines, floating lines and a wading pole.

At 6:58 firefighters were called to reports of a building fire on Fusehill Street in Carlisle.
Crews, wearing two breathing apparatus, used a hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters checked for hot spots and found one in the bathroom.
Police were in attendance as the fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

At 11:00 firefighters from Barrow attended reports of a fire on Friars Lane, in Barrow-in-Furness. Crews attended the scene and found one skip which was well alight. The team used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for approximately 20 minutes.

At 12:18 firefighters from Penrith were called to reports of a collision on the access road to Centre Parcs, Whinfell Forest.
Crews attended the scene and found there had been a collision between a car and a van which was towing a caravan. The van had overturned as a result of the collision and two people were trapped in the vehicle.
The team used electronic cutting equipment to release the casualties and they were both passed to the care of North West Ambulance Service.

Telegraph pole fire in Whitehaven

At 10:36 firefighters were called to reports of a telegraph pole being on fire in a field off South View Road in Whitehaven.
On arrival the crew from Whitehaven Fire Station discovered a wooden electricity pole well alight.
Firefighters monitored the fire from a safe distance as United Utilities isolated the electricity supply.
The crew then extinguished the fire with water aided by a triple extension ladder.
Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour-and-a-half.

Fire at a detached garage in Windermere

At 13:27 firefighters were called to a fire at a detached garage on Broad Street in Windermere.
On arrival crews from Staveley and Windermere fire stations discovered that a fire involving a wheelie bin had spread to the garage.
With the owner not at home, firefighters forced entry into the garage.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
The crews then removed the facia boards at the back of the garage to expose roof beams.
Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots to make sure the area was safe before leaving the scene.
They were in attendance for around an hour.

Bush fire in Keswick

At 21:41 firefighters were called to reports of a bus on fire at an address on Raven Lane, Applewaithe. The fire had spread to a fence and shed at the property next door.
Crews used a hose reel jet to put out the fire.

Fire at railway station, Maryport

At 02:38 firefighters were called to reports of the hand car wash on fire at Maryport Railway Station. Five fire engines from Maryport, Workington, Aspatria, Cockermouth and Carlisle attended, along with an aerial appliance and the joint incident command unit. Crews used two main jets, four hose reels, two ground monitors and the aerial appliance to extinguish the fire, which took around four hours. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

At 08:08 firefighters were called to a collision on the A66 Stainburn, Workington. A car had overturned and one person was trapped. Crews used cutting and spreading equipment to free the casualty who was handed over to paramedics.

At 14:10 firefighters were called to a house fire in Langdale Drive, Cockermouth. Four fire engines from Workington, Whitehaven, Maryport and Keswick attended the incident, which was confined to the bedroom of a first floor flat. One casualty suffered with smoke inhalation and was passed to the care of paramedics. Crews used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. They also rescued three kittens from the property. They were in attendance for three hours and 20 minutes.

Hay on fire in Appleby

At 20:22 firefighters were called to a fire at a farm off the A66 in Appleby. It was a controlled burning that had got out of control, with crews spending around two hours dampening down hotspots of hay with two hose reels. They were due to return the following morning to continue the work to ensure there would be no risk of re-ignition.

At 06:36 firefighters were called to Watermillock, Penrith, to a tree fire. The fire was in a large oak tree and crews used a hose reel jet, a main jet, a light portable pump, a triple extension ladder and a thermal imaging camera to fight the fire.

At 09:19 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision near to the Rayrigg roundabout at the junction of the A592 and A591. A car had overturned and was on its roof. Fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment and stabilisers to extract a casualty from the car before they handed the casualty into the care of paramedics.

At 15:44 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the M6 northbound carriageway near Junction 41. It involved a large motorhome and two other vehicles, and the motorhome had tipped on its side and was blocking two lanes of the carriageway. Additionally, the motorhome had gas inside it which needed to be made safe. Crews made the scene safe, isolated both the gas cylinder and the battery on the vehicle, and passed the casualty to the care of paramedics at the scene. They were in attendance for around an hour and a half in total.

Barn fire in Appleby

At 23:14 firefighters from Appleby, Kirby Stephen and Penrith were called to reports of a barn on fire off the A66 Appleby bypass in Coupland Beck. The barn measured around 30 x 15m and was well alight on arrival and partially collapsed. A van had also caught alight. At its peak, crews were using five mains jets to tackle the blaze, with a bowser and two fire engines ferrying water. Farm machinery was also being used to move around 300 bales of hay out of harm`s way. They worked throughout the night, using ground monitors to identify hotspots and hose reels to dampen down. In total, crews were detained for around eight hours.

At 13:17 firefighters were called to a hay fire on a field in Coupland Beck. The fire was approximately 100 x 100 metres in size. Crews used a hose reel and beaters to extinguish the fire and the farmer then spread water on the affected straw using a slurry tanker to cool any remaining hotspots.

On arrival the crew from Carlisle West Fire Station found a vehicle alight and that a lamp post had been damaged.

Firefighters were in attendance for around 40 minutes.
Police and the Highways Agency also attended.

At 11:58 firefighters from Wigton and Carlisle were called to a fire on land off Minor Road, Bowness on Solway. The fire involved a large quantity of waste timber and refuse. Crews used two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

At 20:14 firefighters were called to a fire in a field near the entrance to Dalston Hall Holiday Park and Golf Club in Dalston, Carlisle.
On arrival the crew from Carlisle West Fire Station discovered a large quantity of straw alight.
The fire measured approximately five metres by 10 metres.
Firefighters used a hose reel jet and a drag rake to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for more than half-an-hour.

At 23:12 firefighters were called to an unattended fire at a building site on Old Hall Road, Troutbeck Bridge, Windermere.
The crew from Windermere Fire Station used a shovel to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for around 20 minutes.

At 15:26 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Yewdale Road in Carlisle.
Crews from Carlisle West and Penrith fought the fire in the two-storey property.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters then used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.
They fully ventilated the house and checked for signs of fire in neighbouring properties.
Firefighters were in attendance for more than two hours.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one main jet and a positive pressure ventilation fan to bring the fire under control.

At 15:12 firefighters from Wigton and Carlisle East attended reports of a large vehicle on fire on the B5302 in Wigton.
Crews attended the scene and found a large vehicle which had caught fire and spread to nearby hedges and a field of eight acres of Barley.
A further two fire engines were requested from Carlisle West and Silloth and the fire was extinguished using eight beaters, two breathing apparatus and four hose reel jets. Two agricultural vehicles assisted also assisted by spreading water and slurry onto the field to dampen down. Fire crews were in attendance for approximately one hour and 30 minutes.

At 9:43 firefighters from Whitehaven were called to reports of a collision at Whitehaven Leisure Centre. The team attended the scene and released one casualty who was trapped in a car. The team provided oxygen to the woman and she was then was passed to the care of North West Ambulance Service. Crews were detained at the scene for approximately 10 minutes.

At 15:30 firefighters from Barrow were called to reports of a fire at a former hospital on Beccleuch Dock Road.
Crews attended the scene and discovered that the building was well alight.
The team immediately requested back up at the site and an additional seven fire engines and an aerial platform attended.

Update at 16:30:
Crews are currently using hose reel jets to tackle the fire, which is on the first floor of the three-storey building.
The roof is also well alight.
Due to a risk of the building collapsing, the team are currently working from a safe distance.
Residents in the local area are advised to keep windows and doors closed at the current time.

Update at 17:25:
Due to a potential asbestos risk, firefighters are wearing dust masks at the scene.
Residents in the local area are reminded to keep windows and doors closed.
The fire has caused a large smoke plume in a southerly direction.
The Environment Agency has been informed of the incident.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently tackling the fire from above using an aerial appliance.

Update at 18:00:
A third hydrant has been set up as firefighters continue to fight the fire.
A large amount of water has run off from the incident.

Update at 7am
The fire was extinguished shortly before midnight and crews have left the scene.

At 17:21 firefighters were called to reports of a fire at the Iggesund Paperboard mill on Siddick Road in Workington.
The fire involving an overheated water pump was out on arrival and all persons were accounted for.
A drill was used to help make the machine safe.
Firefighters were in attendance for around 20 minutes.

At 10:31 firefighters were called to the A595 in Wigton after a trailer containing six cows overturned.
Once a vet had checked over the animals, firefighters used special cutting equipment to free the cows from the trailer.
The cows were then escorted into pens approximately 100 metres down the road.
Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour-and-a-half.

At 16:24 firefighters were called to High Knipe Road in Askham after a tractor had turned on its side.
The driver was trapped inside.
Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to free him from the overturned vehicle and then handed him over to the care of paramedics.
The man was taken to hospital via Air Ambulance.
Fire crews were in attendance for around an hour and 20 minutes.

At 19:00 firefighters were called to a collision involving two vehicles on Mirehouse Road in Whitehaven.
On arrival they discovered that no-one was trapped inside the vehicles.

At 19:20 firefighters were called to the M6 northbound, between junctions 40 and 41, to a road traffic collision with a person trapped. A 4x4 vehicle had left the carriageway and gone down an embankment. Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment, stabilisation equipment and a chocks to release one casualty from the vehicle. One further casualty was out of the vehicle on arrival of the crews. The crews, from Penrith and Lazonby, were at the scene for one hour and 40 minutes.

At 00:20 Firefighters from Kendal attended a fire at a house on Wattsfield Lane, Kendal. The fire involved the cooker in a kitchen. Firefighters used one hose reel two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, the team then used a large fan to clear the smoke from the property. Crews were detained approximately fifty minutes.

At 01:22 Firefighters from Carlisle East and Carlisle West attended reports of a carbon monoxide leak on Mortonrigg, Carlisle. There was a strong smell of gas inside the property. Firefighters used one breathing apparatus to investigate the leak. Crews were detained for approximately fifty minutes. One casualty was conveyed to hospital for a precautionary check by the ambulance service.

Firefighters were in attendance for more than two hours.

At 04:33 firefighters were called to a car fire on Hutton Way in Carlisle.
The vehicle was well alight on a driveway on arrival.
A firefighter wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
The fire completely destroyed the car and caused slight damage to a second vehicle on the driveway.
Firefighters were in attendance for more than half-an-hour.
Police also attendance.

At 06:41 firefighters were called to a report of a fire at Ali`s Takeaway at Linton House, Shaddongate, Carlisle.
On arrival crews discovered that the two-storey property was smoke lagged.
Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check for any signs of fire in the takeaway or the hair and beauty and sun salons downstairs.
They could find no sign of fire.
Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour.

On arrival the crew discovered an area of grass measuring around 10 metres by five metres well alight.
Firefighters extinguished the fire with water and then damped the area down to make sure it was safe.

At 19:39 firefighters were called to a fire in the roof of a property on New House Farm Road, Newby West. The fire was in the roof timbers and joists and crews used a thermal imaging camera, the aerial ladder platform and a hose reel jet to put out the fire.
