Lorry on fire on M6 southbound near J40

At 01:29 firefighters were called to a report of a lorry fire on the M6 southbound between junctions 40 and 39. Lane one of the motorway was closed by emergency services to enable crews to tackle the fire. Two crew members in breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and three compressed air foam systems to put out the blaze before damping the vehicle down. They were at the scene for around two hours.

At 07:19 firefighters were called to a report of a three-vehicle road traffic collision. There were four casualties who were in the care of the ambulance service. Firefighters made the scene safe and used environmental equipment to clean diesel from the road.

At 15:43 firefighters attended to a kitchen fire at an address on Cumberland Road in Whitehaven. Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

At 15:159 firefighters attended to 30m by 20m of grass well alight on Mosedale in Penrith. A hose reel jet was used by crews to extinguish the fire.

Large barn fire in Dearham

At 18:14 firefighters were called to a large building fire on Crosshow Road, Dearham, near Maryport.
A crew from Maryport were initially dispatched to the scene and on arrival they discovered the fire involved two large barns, each measuring approximately 50 metres by 100 metres. The fire had also spread to an adjoining joiner’s workshop.
Due to the scale of the fire, and low water pressure in the area, and additional six pumps were dispatched to the scene, along with an aerial platform, water bowser and Joint Incident Command Unit.
The team are using hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze and the fire is believed to be under control. There are no reports of any injures at the current time.
Police are also in attendance at the scene and road closures are in place while the team deal with the incident

Railway embankment fire in Shap

At 21:38 firefighters were called to a fire on an embankment close to the railway track. An area of around 20 metres x 70 metres was involved. The crew used a hose reel jet and two beaters to put out the fire.

At 14:57 firefighters were called to a large quantity of tyres and wood which was on fire in Burneside. Crews used foam, two main jets and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

Sheep stuck in mud in Dalton-in-Furness

At 18:37 firefighters were called to a report of a sheep being stuck in mud at a farm on Broughton Road in Dalton-in-Furness.
On arrival the crews discovered that the sheep was stuck in mud at the edge of a pond.
Firefighters rescued the sheep and were in attendance for less than 15 minutes.

Fire at derelict farmhouse in Burgh by Sands, Carlisle

At 19:49 firefighters were called to a report of a derelict farmhouse being on fire in Longburgh, Burgh by Sands, Carlisle.
On arrival the crews found the building to be well alight.
Due to the location of the farmhouse, firefighters ferried water from the nearest hydrant and used an extended hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
They were in attendance for around three hours.

At 11:35 firefighters were called to a gorse fire on the A593 in Torver, Coniston. Approximately 10m by 20m of gorse and grass was on fire and crews used beaters and a hose reel jet to put out the fire.

At 20:27 firefighters were called to Station Road, Millom, after a report of a rubbish fire in the train station. A small quantity of rubbish was on fire on a platform and was extinguished by crews using a fire extinguisher.

Flat fire in Windermere

At 01:50 firefighters from Windermere attended a fire at a residential flat on Church Street, Windermere. The fire involved food which had been left unattended on a cooker in the kitchen. One casualty was assisted from the flat suffering from the effects of smoke and given oxygen therapy by the fire crew. The ambulance service also attended. The fire crew were in attendance for an hour and five minutes.

At 7:34 firefighters from Workington and Whitehaven were called to reports that an ammonia alarm had activated at an industrial premises in Lillyhall. Crews attended the scene and used specialist gas tight suits and breathing apparatus to conduct a search of the premises. A specialist engineer was also called to the site who confirmed that the leak was contained.

At 10:15 firefighters from Penrith were called to reports of a vehicle fire on the A6 in Clifton. On arrival crews found that the incident involved a small delivery van. The team used one breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a Carbon Dioxide extinguisher to extinguish the fire. Crews were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes.

At 11:25 firefighters from Carlisle East and Carlisle West attended reports of a building fire on Harker Industrial Estate, Kingmoor Park, Carlisle.
Crews attended the scene and found that the incident involved a collapsed water tower with small pockets of fire inside. The fire is believed to have been caused by a salvage operation taking place at the site.
The team used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes.

At 21:33 two fire engines from Barrow and Ulverston were mobilised to reports of two youths trapped on a roof on Fell Street, Barrow.
Crews attended the scene and found that the children had become trapped while retrieving a football
The team used a 12 metre ladder to rescue the youths from roof. Crews were in attendance for 15 minutes.

At 17:50 Firefighters from Carlisle West and Carlisle East attended reports of a fire in Wiggonby. The fire involved a barn approximately fifteen metres by ten metres which contained sawdust bales. Crews used one hose reel jet and one breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, they then used a thermal image camera to check for hotspots. Crews were detained for approximately one hour and twenty minutes.

At 23:59 firefighters from Workington were called to reports of a vehicle fire on Holden Road, Salterbeck. Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the car, a Fort Couger, and were in attendance for approximately 15 minutes.

At 12:19 firefighters were called to a commercial premises on St Johns Street, Keswick. Crews used a hose reel and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire which was in an extraction flue.

At 19:14 firefighters attended to a small chimney fire at an address on Seat Hill in Lazenby. Crews used a triple extension, thermal imaging camera and chimney gear to put out the blaze. Firefighters were in attendance for 30 minutes.

At 06:19 this morning firefighters attended to a collision on Station Cottages Road involving one vehicle. Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to extract the driver from the vehicle. Crews were there for one hour.

At 15:47 firefighters from Carlisle were called to reports of a two vehicle collision on the A69, Warwick Bridge. On arrival at the scene crews found that all casualties were accounted for.
The team made the vehicles safe and used oil absorbent pads to clear a small amount of fuel which had leaked onto the road.
The team were in attendance for approximately 20 minutes.

At 18:03 firefighters were called to a report of an unattended bonfire at Vickers Town Allotments in Latona Street, Walney, Barrow-in-Furness.
The crew used water to extinguish the fire in the open and were in attendance for around 20 minutes.

Fire at single-storey domestic property in Ambleside

At 22.57 two fire engines - from Coniston and Ambleside fire stations - were called to a report of a fire at a domestic property in Barnhowe, Elterwater, Ambleside.
On arrival crews discovered that the roofspace of the single-storey property was well alight.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to fight the fire.
A main jet was also used.
Firefighters wore safety equipment to access the roofspace before removing roof tiles and plasterboard to identify hotspots.
The fire spread through a void in a wall. Firefighters extinguished the fire and removed the wall.
They were in attendance for around three-and-a-half hours.

At 5:32, two fire engines fro Whitehaven attended a road traffic collision on Springfield Road in Bigrigg, Egremont. One person was trapped in their car, crews used Holmatro cutting equipment to release them and they were passed to the care of paramedics. They were in attendance for just over half an hour.

At 1:48, firefighters from Whitehaven attended reports of multiple bin fires in Scotch Street, Whitehaven. Crews found three bins filled with household waste well alight and used a single hose reel to extinguish each one in turn. They were in attendance for around half an hour.

At 12:02, firefighters from Barrow attended a report of a man stuck in a lift at a residential complex in Ramsey Park, Barrow. Crews used breaking in gear and a socket set to gain entry to the lift and release the man. They were in attendance for nearly an hour.

At 20:47 two fire engines from Penrith and Alston attended a road traffic collision on the A686. It involved a single vehicle with a person trapped inside. Crews used cutting gear to release the casualty, who was passed to the care of paramedics. They were in attendance was about an hour.

At 10:48 three fire engines from Carlisle East, Carlisle West and Longtown attended a domestic building fire on Osborne Avenue, Carlisle. On arrival crews found the fire to be involving a semi-detached property. Crews used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. Crews were in attendance for approximately one hour 30 minutes.

At 14:37 firefighters from Maryport and Wigton fire stations were called to reports of a fire in Bromfield, Wigton.
On arrival the crews discovered that the fire involved a barn connected to two shipping containers.
Firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
They then cooled the area down and dug out the areas damaged by the fire to make the scene safe.
Fire crews were at the scene for more than an hour.

At 17:27 firefighters from Carlisle East and West were called to reports of a caravan on fire at a caravan park in High Knells, Houghton. Crews used a single hose reel jet to extinguish the flames. they were in attendance for around 20 minutes.

At 1:26 firefighters from Kirby Lonsdale, Kendal, Milnthorpe and Sedbergh were called to reports of a vehicle fire on the M6 northbound between junctions 36 and 37.
On arrival at the scene crews found that the trailer of an artic lorry was well alight.
Two compressed air foam system branches and four breathing apparatus sets were used to extinguish the fire.
The water bowser from Penrith Fire Station also attended.
Run off drains at the incident site were covered with dammit solution to prevent foam entering.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. He is believed to have suffered from shock.
Fire crews were in attendance for approximately five hours.

At 10:53 three fire engines from Barrow, Grange and Ulverston were called to a fire in an electrical room of Anchor Court residential housing in Rawlinson Street, Dalton-in-Furness.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have been caused by an overheated transformer in the first floor electrical room.
They then used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.
All persons were accounted for.
Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour-and-a-half.

At 18:50 two fire engines from Barrow and Walney attended a flat fire on Hartington Street, Barrow-in-Furness. Fire crews attended the scene and found the fire involved a vivarium. The team used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and ventilation to tackle the fire. Four reptiles were rescued from the property and one reptile was given oxygen therapy. Fire crews were on scene for around one hour and fifteen minutes.

The fire was out on arrival, but the chimney was still extremely hot.
Firefighters used a thermal imaging cameral to examine the chimney and a hearth kit to ensure that it was safe.

At around 15:30 firefighters were called to reports of a spillage of hazardous liquid on the Moorside Farm access road in Penrith.
On arrival at the access road to Moorside Culgaith from the U3069 in Culgaith, crews discovered that approximately three litres of the liquid had leaked.
Firefighters used a hose reel jet to dilute the liquid and were in attendance for around 50 minutes.

Collision involving a car and a lamp post in Whitehaven

At 21:34 hours firefighters were called to a collision involving a car and a lamp post on New Road in Whitehaven.
On arrival crews found that two people were trapped inside the vehicle.
They used specialist cutting, lifting and lighting equipment to extricate the two casualties from the car and then handed them over to the care of paramedics.
Firefighters then made the scene safe and were in attendance for around three hours.
Police were also in attendance.

Woman rescued from side of an embankment in Barrow-in-Furness

At around 6:15 firefighters were called to assist a woman who had slipped down the side of an embankment, at Slag Bank on Ormsgill Lane in Barrow-in-Furness.
Crews used specialist climbing equipment to gain access to where the woman was.
The embankment was 20 metres deep and the woman was stranded halfway down.
Firefighters helped the woman down to the base of the steep incline and handed her over to the care of waiting paramedics.
Fire crews were in attendance for around an hour and 15 minutes.
