Preparing for Emergencies in Cumbria

The Cumbria wide floods of November 2009, the A66 bus crash in May 2010 and the recent severe winter weather all vividly illustrate the potential for emergencies to cause loss of life, injury, damage to property and the environment and disruption to our way of life.

By being informed and prepared, local communities and households can significantly reduce the risk to life and property. And whilst we may not be able to eliminate all risks there is a lot your Councils and communities can do to be better prepared.

The Local Resilience Forum through this web site and other publications, strives to educate and raise awareness about what 'you' can do to better prepare yourself, your family and your community for an emergency.

As well as advice on specific emergencies, these pages also inform you about what voluntary and community groups can do, the risks which may threaten you or your community and key information that may help you before, during and after an emergency.
