Voluntary and Community groups have a vital role to play in any major emergency in Cumbria.
We are a large rural county with a relatively small, widely scattered population; in fact only 20 of our conurbations have a population in excess of 2,000 persons. This means that our resources, although appropriate for day-to-day business, are stretched in an emergency and responders will possibly concentrate their resources in life threatening incidents to the exclusion of others.
We already have an extensive network of voluntary support. If you would like to offer the assistance yourself or your group please contact us and we can put you in touch with the appropriate agency.
Alternatively you may be interested in helping to prepare your Community for an emergency. There may already be a group working in your area and you, with friends and neighbours may choose to start your own group. The County Resilience Unit provides planning templates to help you start on this, and we are always available as a source of help and advice.
