Sheltering in an Emergency
Sheltering can often be the most important thing you can do to protect you and your family during a major emergency.
There are two basic forms of sheltering:
Shelter-in-Place - means to remain in your home or workplace during an emergency, and protect yourself there.
Emergency sheltering – in some instances sheltering may be required for extended periods of time due to severe weather or utility disruptions. In these situations the local authority will provide emergency rest centres. These may be at a school or leisure centre and are designed to provide the community with facilities during the emergency.
