Environment Directorate

The Environment Directorate helps Cumbria to have:

  • a sustainable and prosperous economy;
  • a world class environmental quality; and
  • effective connections between people and places.          

To achieve this we bring together three specialized areas that help to shape the way in which people live, work and visit Cumbria:

Together we deliver a range of services that impact on people every day - from roads, transport and waste management services; supporting the local economy and businesses, and helping people get back into work; as well as looking after the county's environment, biodiversity and helping reduce Cumbria's impact on climate change.

As a single directorate, with around 300 people directly employed, we are focused on ensuring we:

  • deliver excellent services;
  • have effective delivery mechanisms;
  • are customer focused and understand our customer demand;
  • are a trusted partner; and
  • adopt innovative approaches to our activities and services.
