Key priorities
In addition, we have a key role in improving road safety and cutting the number of people killed or seriously injured on roads in Cumbria through our work as part of the Cumbria Road Safety Partnership.
Areas of activity
1. Transport Policy
Develop, promote and implement the county’s transport policy through the Local Transport Plan and help to ensure that other plans and strategies are aligned with it; co-ordinate road safety activities. Find out more
2. Passenger Transport
Develop passenger transport services and networks for movement to support a thriving economy; promote sustainable transport; and develop sustainable access to services and facilities. Find out more
3. Transport Operations
Provide safe and effective transport services for pupils and students, social care users and demand responsive services such as Rural Wheels and City Wheels; monitor and inspect transport providers; deliver transport services publicity and promotions programme; develop and undertake users surveys to identify good practice and areas for improvement. 4. Countryside Access
Manage and maintain public rights of way and open access land; improve access to the countryside through the rights of way improvement plan; input and influence access policies both locally and nationally; and promote the use and enjoyment of the countryside. Find out more
5. Cumbria Highways
Deliver highways management and maintenance service in conjunction with Capita and Amey as part of Cumbria Highways. Manage the Carlisle Northern Development Route (CNDR) project which includes Connect Roads maintaining a number of roads from October 2009. Find out more
