7/07/2011 -  Council objects to new national park extension proposals
Proposals to extend the boundaries of the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks in Cumbria would lead to more problems with affordable housing, could potentially undermine key national infrastructure projects for the county, and would create a democratic deficit where unelected members are responsible for a larger area of the county.

23/06/2011 -  Council welcomes Sellafield's inclusion on list for new nuclear build

Cumbria County Council's Cabinet member for nuclear issues has welcomed the news that Sellafield has been confirmed as one of eight sites in the UK that has been deemed suitable as a location for a new generation of nuclear power stations to be built by 2025.

14/04/2011 - Lake District World Heritage Site 
The Lake District is now on the provisional tentative list for WHS status for consideration by UNESCO in 2012.

6/04/2011 - Council's nuclear representative criticises Lillyhall radioactive waste decision 

Cumbria County Council's Cabinet member responsible for nuclear issues has described a decision to allow High Volume Very Low Level Radioactive Waste (HV-VLLW) from a number of nuclear sites to be disposed of at a landfill site at Lillyhall as 'disappointing and disheartening'.

Volunteers across Cumbria are needed to help test food waste digesters that can be used to compost a wide range of kitchen leftovers at home.

14/01/2011 -  £4,300 fine for limestone pavement damage 
A company in charge of a Cumbrian hotel has been fined more than £4,000 for damaging a protected limestone pavement.
