Community Cohesion is about the quality of relationships between people from different backgrounds in the local community.  A cohesive community is one that:

• Brings people together 
• Challenges stereotypes
• Treats everyone with dignity and respect.

Every three years we carry out the Cumbria Attitudes Survey which asks the public a number of questions about their views of different groups. The 2007 survey identified four area to build community relations:

• Gypsy Travellers
• Muslim community
• Lesbian, gay and Bi-sexual people
• Eastern Europeans
